well i use Premiere quite a bit at college,(getting it at home this summer) and i find that to use a Pinnacle import device works okay... most of the time..... Laura

Hi all,

Something I've noticed about the people who are having problems with editing on their PCs is that they only give little bits of info on their system and generally a vague description of their problem. It is therefore quite difficult for anyone trying to help them give any helpful suggestions. I build video editing system for a living and I know they can sometimes be very difficult to get working correctly. Please give as much info as possible about you problem and the full specs of your PC including; CPU, Motherboard (make & model), graphics card, editing card etc etc. This will help the people trying to diagnose your problem.

And a message to Machead. Why don't you give constructive advice or suggestions? Saying "just get a Mac" ain't very helpful. I'm not going to get into Mac vs. PC argument because it's pretty pointless. Everybody has their own opinions on what they prefer, and both systems have their strengths and weaknesses.

firewire pcmia card is made by belkin

I can capture in but export doesnt work. I cant view the footage on the xm2 lcd screen, just on the prem monitor. All the setting in prem seem correct.

I just get black, wheter its export to video or print to tape.

Lots of people have this prob on the adobe site too.

I have the same problem gen,
my specs, P4, Ati Pro 9000, 256 ddr ram, 80 gig hd..

exports to black..

it seems to be win xp :S

Hi Generic Skinhead,

First of all the Print to Tape feature doesn't work. You need to stick to the Export to Tape feature. You also need to make sure that you set the output to DV. To do this goto the Project Menu and select Project Setting and then General. In this window click on the Playback button. Make sure that the Playback on DV Camcorder/VCR box has a tick in it. Then click on OK. Now when you play the Timeline back you should see the output on the camcorders screen.

If there is still no output check what driver you are using for the Firewire card. I'm not sure if it will need a specific driver or just the normal OHCI driver. If it is the normal OHCI driver it should say Texas Instruments 1394 driver under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers in Device Manager. You could try changing it to the Microsoft OHCI driver to see if that makes any difference.

It is worth putting either the Premiere 6.01 or Premiere 6.02 updates on your system if you haven't already installed them. The 6.02 update fixes certain bugs only applicable to Premiere on laptops.

If you're still not getting anywhere try a different camcorder if you have access to one just to rule out any incompatibility with the XM2. Most Canon camcorders should be fine but it is worth trying a different cam.

Vlad, are you using a Firewire card or dedicated capture card in your system?
